Struttura — How to Use
Last Updated: January 1, 2026
Requirements
- Revit 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, or 2027
- An architectural Revit model linked into your structural model
- Structural column, beam, floor, and footing families loaded in the host model
Workflow
Struttura follows a sequential 4-step workflow. Run the commands in order for best results.
Step 1 — Framing from Walls
What it does: Reads architectural wall centerlines from the linked model and creates structural framing in three sub-steps:
- Perimeter columns at wall endpoints — spanning the full wall height (below base by beam depth, up to wall top minus top offset)
- Beams at every floor level the wall passes through, plus the actual wall top
- Intermediate columns inside each bay where wall length exceeds the max spacing
How to run:
- Open Revit with your structural model and linked architectural model loaded
- Click Avant Leap → Struttura → Framing from Walls
- Select the linked model, column family type, and beam family type
- Set max column spacing (default 3.0 m) and top offset (default 150 mm)
- Click Run
Step 2 — Floors from Arch
What it does: Reads floor outlines from the linked architectural model and creates structural floor slabs at the matching host levels.
How to run:
- Click Avant Leap → Struttura → Floors from Arch
- Select the linked model and structural floor type
- Click Run
Step 3 — Foundations from Columns
What it does: Places isolated pad footings under every structural column in the host model. Foundation size is automatically calculated from the column cross-section dimensions.
How to run:
- Click Avant Leap → Struttura → Foundations from Columns
- Select the foundation family type and set foundation thickness (default 450 mm)
- Click Run
Note: Run this command AFTER Step 1 (Framing from Walls) so structural columns exist in the model.
Step 4 — Validate Alignment
What it does: Compares structural elements in the host model against architectural elements in the linked model and reports misalignments that exceed the tolerance threshold.
How to run:
- Click Avant Leap → Struttura → Validate Alignment
- Select the linked model and set alignment tolerance (default 50 mm)
- Click Run
- Review the misalignment report in the results dialog
Tips
- Always run build.bat and deploylocal.bat before testing updates
- Use Add-In Manager (Add-Ins → External Tools → Add-In Manager) during development to reload the DLL without restarting Revit
- If the linked model has no structural column/beam families loaded, add them first via Insert → Load Family
- Foundation thickness drives the vertical offset — increase if footings overlap with the floor slab
