Riscontro — How to Use

What Riscontro Does

Riscontro compares Revit model geometry against a loaded point cloud and colour-codes each element by deviation severity. It is designed for BIM coordinators and site engineers who need to verify as-built conditions without manual visual inspection.


Prerequisites

  • Autodesk Revit 2025 or 2026
  • A project model open (not a family document)
  • At least one loaded point cloud (RCS or RCP format) linked into the model
  • A 3D view, floor plan, or section active

If the point cloud shows ⚠ in Manage → Manage Links → Point Clouds, it is unloaded. Select it and click Reload before running Riscontro.


Ribbon Location

Riscontro appears on the Avant Leap tab, Riscontro panel.


Workflow

1 — Run Analysis

Click Run Analysis to compare all elements in the active scope against the point cloud.

Optional: Select specific elements in Revit before clicking to analyse only those elements.

Riscontro will:

  1. Detect all loaded point clouds in the model
  2. Collect supported element categories (configurable in Settings)
  3. Filter elements that spatially overlap the point cloud
  4. Measure the deviation between each element's geometry and nearby cloud points
  5. Colour-code each element in the active view
  6. Show a summary dialog with counts and top deviations

Colour key:

Colour Meaning
Green OK — within warning threshold
Orange Warning — deviation detected but below critical threshold
Red Critical — deviation exceeds critical threshold
Grey No data — no cloud points were found near this element

2 — Review Results

Click Review Results to see the full deviation table for the last analysis run.

  • Rows are sorted by severity (Critical first)
  • Click Export to CSV to save the full report for handoff or further analysis
  • The CSV uses . as the decimal separator regardless of your system locale

3 — Select Deviations

Click Select Deviations to automatically select all Warning and Critical elements in the Revit model. Use this with Revit's built-in Isolate Element or to create a filter for further review.

4 — Clear Colors

Click Clear Colors to remove all Riscontro colour overrides from the active view. The stored analysis results are preserved — click Review Results to re-view them.

To clear both colours and stored results, click Run AnalysisReset stored results.

5 — Settings

Click Settings to configure:

Setting Description
Warning threshold (inches) Deviation at which an element is flagged as Warning
Critical threshold (inches) Deviation at which an element is flagged as Critical
Search radius (ft) Radius around each element to query for cloud points
Min point spacing (ft) Minimum distance between sampled cloud points
Max points analysed per element Upper cap on cloud points evaluated per element
Max elements per run Upper cap on elements analysed in one run
Enable zone analysis Subdivides large elements (floors, roofs) into a grid to detect localised deviations
Zone grid size (ft) Cell size used for zone subdivision
Categories Toggle which Revit categories are included in the analysis

Click Reset defaults to restore factory settings. Click Save to apply.


Large Element Zone Analysis

For large elements such as floors and roofs, a single deviation value can mask that one zone is well-positioned while another has significant deviation. When Enable zone analysis is on, Riscontro:

  1. Detects elements whose footprint exceeds 1.5× the zone grid size
  2. Subdivides the element into a grid of zones
  3. Evaluates each zone independently
  4. Reports the worst zone as the element deviation

This means an element is only marked OK if all zones are within tolerance.


Tips

  • Run the analysis from a 3D view that is aligned with the point cloud for best colour visibility.
  • Use a smaller search radius for interior scans (3–5 ft) and a larger one for full-site exterior scans (8–15 ft).
  • For a fresh run after changing models: click Run AnalysisReset stored results → close the dialog → Run Analysis again.
  • Export to CSV after each analysis session for project records.
