Design Innovation & Fabrication Support

Structural Engineering

Three engagements showing how Avant Leap Engineering balances cost efficiency, production speed, and structural safety, from future proofed modular design through rapid vendor RFI resolution during active fabrication.

4 Fabrication RFIs Resolved in a Single
Response Cycle With Zero Production Delays

A data center equipment manufacturer needed structural engineering support that could keep pace with active fabrication, from designing skids flexible enough to expand without a full redesign to resolving vendor questions on the shop floor in real time. Avant Leap's structural team built forward looking placeholder designs, ran connection by connection safety reviews on proposed fastener substitutions, and consolidated multiple fabrication RFIs into single, same day responses.

CASE STUDY 1

Future Proofed Modular Design

Challenge

The client's data center deployments needed room to add transformer capacity without triggering new structural calculations, drawings, or separate PE stamps and state approvals for every configuration.

Solution

Avant Leap engineered the SKID 1 platform with a structural placeholder and load capacity sized for a fourth transformer from day one, then structured the documentation to cover both the three transformer and four transformer configurations.

Result

SKID 3 came out structurally identical to SKID 1 with zero redesign and an updated stamped package delivered within 24 hours, keeping the customer's delivery deadline intact. Download the full case study to see the complete design strategy.

CASE STUDY 2

Vendor RFI Management

Challenge

During active fabrication, the steel vendor proposed swapping specified drilled and tapped bolt connections for self tapping screws to save shop time, requiring a connection by connection safety review without pausing production.

Solution

Avant Leap evaluated every connection individually, approving the fastener substitution where load demands allowed it and holding the original specification on safety critical connections like the jacking and rigging assemblies.

Result

The client kept full seismic compliance on every critical connection while capturing 10 to 15% material cost savings elsewhere, with engineering guidance delivered within 24 hours so fabrication never stopped. Download the full case study for the complete evaluation.

CASE STUDY 3

Multi Stakeholder Fabrication Support

Challenge

Four separate technical questions on grounding plates, connector holes, weld variance, and calculation revisions surfaced at once from the client and their steel vendor during active fabrication.

Solution

Avant Leap reviewed all four RFIs together and issued a single consolidated response confirming each proposed solution against the engineering requirements.

Result

All four RFIs were resolved in one response cycle with zero production stoppage and no re stamping required, keeping the fabrication vendor relationship and the documentation trail intact. Download the full case study to see the full resolution.
