Scanning a Medical Center

3D Site Scanning & Point Cloud Survey

Cover Image

How Avant Leap documented a complete five building hospital campus through 3D laser scanning, delivering a registered point cloud with sub inch precision that served as a reliable geometric foundation for the design team's renovation work.

A 568,000 SF Hospital Campus Documented
With Sub Inch Precision in 5 Weeks

Blend AEC needed precise existing conditions across the St. Vincent Medical Center campus, a complex, multi building hospital property, to support ongoing tenant improvement and renovation work. Avant Leap deployed a 22 session field capture program using the Leica RTC360 scanner, delivering the registered point cloud progressively by area so the design team could begin work before the full survey was complete.

CASE STUDY 1

St. Vincent Medical Center, Blend AEC

Challenge

A five building campus with structurally distinct towers, complex vertical connectivity between buildings, and a data delivery requirement that had to be progressive, not a single drop, all within a compressed 5 week schedule.

Solution

Avant Leap ran 22 field scanning sessions with the Leica RTC360, capturing stairwells, exterior connectors, and an underground utility corridor, processing data in parallel with field capture to enable area by area delivery.

Result

The full campus was documented with site wide registration accuracy under ¾ inch, giving Blend's design team a permanent digital record and the ability to start work weeks before the survey was finished. Download the full case study for the complete breakdown.
